"Hope Action Care was originally founded to provide HIV education and risk prevention in the Hispanic community of South Texas. The organization was first known as the Hispanic AIDS Committee for Education and Resources (H.A.C.E.R.) In 1990, the name was shortened to Hispanic AIDS Committee. In 1998, the Board of Directors recognized that the clients of the Agency represented all races and ethnic groups, that HIV was only one of many problems facing the clients, and that the size of the Agency had far outgrown the small committee which had originally incorporated the Agency. It was decided to maintain the initials HAC but to change the name to Hope Action Care. A name which better incorporates the mission and activities of the Agency." "Hope Action Care has been providing food pantry since 1990. In 2005, the HAC food bank has provided food to 536 individual families, member of which visited the food bank more than 11,500 times. This food fed 11,544 persons." "Hope Action Care is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, community-based organization." Acceptable donations include:
